Birding Van Trip- Conesville Coal Lands
Birding Van Trip- Conesville Coal Lands
Black River Audubon is going birding. We are headed into the foothills of the Appalachians looking for warblers, tanagers and sparrows on their breeding grounds. Our destinations are the abandoned coal mine area in the Conesville Coal Lands and the Woodbury State Wildlife Area. We plan on driving the backroads of this paradise-like area, getting out of the van often to look and listen. Target birds include Tanagers (Scarlet and Summer), Warblers (Ovenbird, Hooded, Worm-eating, Kentucky, Blue-Winged, Yellow, Prothonotary, Northern Parula, Cerulean, Yellow-throated, Common Yellowthroat, Louisiana Waterthrush, American Redstart), Vireos (White-eyed, Yellow-throated, Red-eyed, Blue-headed, Warbling), Sparrows (Henslow’s, Vesper) and Yellow-breasted Chat. We will leave at 8:00 AM from Carlisle Reservation and return around 6:00 PM. Black River Audubon Field Trip Coordinator Paul Sherwood will be our driver and guide. Bring a lunch and any snacks and beverages you would like for the day.
Comfortable walking shoes are recommended. Participants should bring a bagged lunch, water, and a light jacket.
