Winter is “weird duck” season for birders. Most of my birding in December through February involves stopping along various parks along Lake Erie and watching the mergansers, goldeneye, scaup, Bufflehead, and scoters. It’s also when gull season really ramps up, with over 10 species of gulls possible. Miller Road Park is one of the vantage points from which it is fun to observe Lake Erie. In recent history it was exceptional in winter due to the power plant heating the water. Well, that power plant is no longer there, but hopefully some birds will be!. - Chad Wilson
